New Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls

 

 

On March 18, 2013 Cisco gave the End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco ASA 5500 Series appliances that covers ASA 5510, ASA 5520, ASA 5540, and ASA 5550 (5505’s are not yet EoL).

 

Now we get to work on the to the new ASA 5500-X Series of next-generation firewalls (NGFW), which includes the ASA 5512-X, ASA 5515-X, ASA 5525-X, ASA 5545-X, and ASA 5555-X.

What’s the difference?  Essentially…

• Hardware (multi-core CPU, 2G RAM, 4G Flash, 6, 1G Ethernet Ports)
• Double the throughput
• Built in IPS module (but must buy license to use)
• BYOD awareness (more control over access)
